1942

Creation of AW Sousa Gilman, Lda., Portuguese representative of English factories that manufacture raw-materials for the glass, ceramic and paint industries.

1988

The trading name of the company changes to GL, LDA, due to a corporate change.

1990

GL enters the food market, represented by Eurogerm, a French company that specialises in bread baking techniques.

1993

Starts supplying cereal for twin chamber yoghurts of great companies of the sector in Portugal, such as Danone and Longa Vida.

2000

Starts representing finished food products, with the introduction of Fit, from Swiss dairy company EMMI, followed by Triballat Noyal soy and biological products, Fleury Michon fresh meals, Minus L lactose-free milk, Kaiku yoghurts and Groupe Norac bread and cakes, among others. Eurogerm and GL, Lda. form Eurogerm Overseas which dedicates itself to the manufacture and distribution of bread baking technologies in Mexico, Peru and Brazil.

2004

The company received the prize "Master of Distribution" for Benecol (from EMMI), the first yoghurt launched in Portugal with proven results in reducing cholesterol.

2005

GL, Lda. becomes a public limited company and the name changes to GL, S.A.

2006

Is awarded a prize from Exame Magazine as Best SME – Trade Sector.

2007

Purchases Águamais, S.A. (later GL Food Solutions, S.A.), the largest sandwich production company. SoNatural fruit smoothies are launched as a result of a partnership with Frubaça (Cooperative of Alcobaça Apple Producers).

2008

Receives the SME Leader classification, granted by the Institute of Support to Small and Medium Enterprises and Innovation (IAPMEI). Acquires Dafgards representation rights in the Iberian Peninsula (a Swedish brand that produces frozen meals).

2009

Introduces its line of juices and sandwiches in the International Fairs with the support of Business Development Agency (AICEP). Its application to export in the scope of the National Strategic Reference Framework (QREN) is approved.

2010

GL, S.A. obtained the ISO 14001 Environmental Certification – Environmental Management Systems (SGA).

2011

The Azambuja factory, GL Food Solutions, S.A., opens and produces sandwiches, salads and other meal solutions (the largest factory in the Iberian Peninsula of its kind, with a size of 6000 square meters and a production potential of 12 million annual units).

2013

GL Food Solutions, S.A. obtains Certification for NP EN ISO 22000:2005 Standard. This standard allows ensuring the safety of foodstuffs, along the food chain, until its final consumption. The “Nutrition Awards” granted a Special Mention to the SoNatural’s Green Juices*, in the category of Product Innovation.

2016

we started the IFS certification with a score of 94,64% (foundation level). The following year we achieved a significantly improved score of 97,65% (higher level).

2018

The Give it a Shot range wins the SIAL INNOVATION 2018 prize as best European non-alcoholic drink.

Opening of a new production line of juices in Malvern, PE, USA, under the brand Sofresco. This new production line allows GL to expose its brand to a wider client portfolio including Latin America and Canada.

2019

GL wins Foreign Investment 2019 Award with Sofresco brand. A prize recognized by the Portugal-US Chamber of commerce in June 2019 at the Harvard Club in NYC.

GL receives *PME Líder* prize. The award is given by IAPMEI, a governmental agency for economic policies targeted to Portuguese companies working under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy.
